About Us

bville logo small.jpg Barkerville Historic Town is operated by a not for profit organization and registered charity called Barkerville Heritage Trust. Each member on the board of the Trust is selected to represent various interests related to Barkerville.

Did You Know?

  • Barkerville is now run by a non-profit charity, the Barkerville Heritage Trust, which consists of representatives from across the north-central interior and the rest of the province.
  • Seven local governments are represented on the Trust’s Board of Directors – City of Prince George, Fraser-Fort George Regional District, City of Quesnel, Cariboo Regional District, District of Wells, City of Williams Lake and the District of 100 Mile House.
  • Not only is Barkerville a provincially designated Heritage Site, but within Barkerville are 3 sites that are National Historic Sites of Canada – the Cariboo Waggon Road, the Cariboo Gold Fields and the recently designated Chee Kung Tong building.
  • Barkerville is more than just heritage buildings; it includes two cemeteries, 187 000 artifacts, 60 000 photos, and a resource library and archives.
  • Barkerville has as much infrastructure as a small municipality – 405 ha. of land, a water reservoir, treatment plant and distribution system, a sewage treatment lagoon and collection system, a dyke and drainage protection system and fire alarm and suppression systems as well as three campgrounds and several kilometres of road.
  • 18 private businesses operate within Barkerville to provide visitor services such as restaurants, accommodation and shopping.
  • Barkerville provides about 20 year round jobs and over 150 seasonal jobs.
